IN THE PHILIPPINES. FIVE PROVINCES AFFECTED MANILA, May 2. Fighting, in which several persons were wounded, developed to-day, as the Sakdalistas, members of an extremist. organisation, opposed to the ratification of the proposed constitution, rebelled in the provinces. Four members of the Philippine Constabulary and two boys were brought to the hospital here. News of the fighting came slowly to Manila over a disrupted communication system. The telephone wires north and south of Manila were severed and radio in the Bulacan Province was silent. American troops took ii]) stations in Manila in order f o protect property, on alarming repoits that the Sakdalistas intended to in vade Manila. The Sakdalistas, who had been campaigning against the Government, allege that the taxes are too high and that the conditions of the poor have become worse under the indirect manner of granting the Philippines independence. (Receied Mav 3, 7 p.m.) MANILA, May 2 Furthen reports late to-night indicated five persons were killed, includ ing a member of the constabulary and eight wounded. Thirty-three per sons were arrested. . The revolt, which gripped five provinces, is declared to have been put down.
