REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, March 22. The resignation of Matron Gibson from, the Reefton Hospital is universally regretted by all, patients and public alike. and it has been felt that some public recognition of her services should be made. A meeting has therefore been called for Monday next at the. Council Chambers, to decide on a public farewell, and this will doubtless be largely attended, especially by ex-patients who universally give personal testimony to the splendid attention and treatment revived by them 'when in hospital. There was a very large attendance at the Waratah Rugby Football Club’s euchre held at the Bandroom last evening, and all spent a very enjoyable time. The games were keenly fought out, and resulted in Mr F. Bonifacio annexing the first prize, and Mrs J. Magee the second. At the Rugby League’s forty-fives tournament held in the Oddfellows' Hall last evening, there was a good al tendance. The winners were Mr Pcntieost Ist and Mr W. Blom 2nd. A first-class suppeij was provided, and greatly enjoyed. The proceedings, the “Mayoral’’ election held in Wesley schoolroom on Wednesday were most humorous, and were throughly enjoyed by a. very large alt enejarice. The candidates were Messrs .T.* McElwce. S. C. Robinson ami F. Smith, ami the latter re eeiving the highest number of vote(estimated by the amount of cash given in his favour), was declared elected The installation was proceed ed with, and was carried out with proper ceremony, and the items to which the. Mayor made reference in his inaugural speech and the remedies he prescribed evoked roars of laugh ter. The agenda paper of the first meeting was then considered, and, tn say the least, the varying items were more than ordinarily striking and original, and created considerable amusement. The financial result of the function. too, has been more than creditable, and the originators are to be congratulated upon their succor as well as the splendid manner in which the contest was carried out.
