(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, March 21.
The police were advised this morning that, so far there has been no trace found of the body of the young man, Hayward, who was drowned in the Okarito lagoon on March 10. At last evening's meeting of the Kiwi Football Club opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Mr D. Diedrich, captain of the senior team on the occasion of his recent marriage. Canon 11. C. Newton, formerly Vicar of Ross, is returning from Christchurch this week after a visit to the Rev. 11. G. Hawkins, of Glen mark, and formerly Vicar of Hokitika. Canon Newton will preach at All Saints Church at 11 a.m. on Sunday and also at 'St. Golumb’s Church, Ko'itcrangi, the same day. At the annual meeting of the Kiwi Football Club Mr J. McCleary presided over a large attendance. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr W. E. Willems; President, Mr W. Keller; Vice-Presidents, Messrs A. H. Lawn, G. Stephens, Hugh Steel, R. Jordan, R. G. Millen, H. J. Cooper, D. Dowell, Mrs O’Connor and Misses Devaney; Secretary, Mr A. E. Turley; Treasurer, Mr G. W. Delbridge; Auditor, Mr P. Phipps; Executive, Messrs D. Nicholson, L. Leslie, D. Diedrich, J. McCleary and Roy Roberts; Delegates, Messrs J. McCleary, D. Breeze; Club Captain, Mr J. Devaney; Coaches Messrs J. Devaney and J. McCleary; Selectors, senior, J. Devanev, AV. Kearns and field captain; junior, J. Devaney, field captain and another to be appointed; Social Committee, Messrs Henderson, Leslie, J. West, D. Diedrich, Rupert Roberts, R. Cooper, J. Wjalker and D. Nicholson. The following new members were elected:— Messrs P. Mitchell, F. Freitas, D. Freitas, B. Growcott, J. McGrath, J. Mitcheil, G. Stapleton, J. Fitzgerald, J. Martini, C. Moore, Naisbett, J. Davidson, W. Sanders, R. Badeley, J. W. Thompson, K. Griffen. lit was decided to commence training on Tuesday, March 26 4 and that the subscriptions be 2s 6d for bbth grades. The following motion was carried unanimously:—That the Club’s delegates be instructed to 'inform the SubUnion the feeling of this meeting is that there has been too many postponements of club fixtures in the past, and that steps should be taken to rectify .the position In the future. It was suggested that the secretaries of the town clubs together with the secretary of the Sub-Union meet and discuss the possibility of arranging to have a flood light erected in Cass Square for night training.
