WESTPORT NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent). Raid on White Butterfly: WESTPORT, February 18. In conjunction with the A. and P, Show, prizes were offered for the biggest captures of white butterflies, and as a result of the contest, 20.081 we.ro accounted for. Girls figured prominently’ in the prize list. The result was as follows: G. Chamberlain .1486, Nola Fox 1375, Nora O’Neill 1368, Mabel Me-Ewan 1147, Natalie Coxall 1083. Obituary: Much regret was occasioned yesterday when it became known that Edward (Ted) Morris had passed away that morning in the Buller Hospital. Deceased arrived in the Buller district when only a boy, and was wellknown at Millerton, where he worked for a number of years. lie later took over a farm on the Nine Mile Road. Deceased was aged sixty years. The late Mr Morris was popular and commanded the esteem of all whose privilege it was to know him. In his young days, he closely associated himself with the sporting life of Buller, and was a good all-round athlete. He is survived by his mother, Mrs W. Penno, Romilly Street, and a sorrowing wife and two sons, Edward(Murchison) and lan (Westport). The funeral will take place to-morrow for Orowaiti Cemetery.

Valedictory: Members of the staff of the Public Works Department in the Buller district gathered during the week-end to farewell Mr -C. S. McCullum, who has been senior clerk in the Westport office for the past six years, and who has been transferred to the head office of the department in Wellington. Mr A. C. Bascand. engineer-in-charge, expressed the regrets of fellow officers in the departure of Mr McCullum but on the other hand wished himself and Mrs McCullum the very best of success and good health in the new sphere. Mr Bascand asked Mr McCullum -to accept a travelling case, and on behalf of Mrs McCullum a cut glass water decanter, as tokens of the esteem in (which they were held by his fellow officers, both in Westport and Grcymouth, and also the members of the staff of the Buller County Council. Mr McCullum suitably replied.

Shipping: There were no shipping movements during the week-end. The Union Company announce the following loadings for the week ending February 23: To-day (Monday) — Titoki, for Napier; Poolta, for Auckland (to complete at Greymouth). Tuesday—Kaimai, for Wellington. Saturday—Gabriella, for Sydney and Newcastle.

The story might have been written especially for Richard Dix, the character “Phillip Eden” fits the star like a glove. Dorothy Wilson, Bruce Cabot. Erin O’Brien Moore, Shirley Grey and Edith Fallows are also in the east. Approved for Universal Exhibition. Excellent supporting subjects. Prices 1/6 and 1/-.
