Mr and Mrs F. Booth, Timaru, are visiting the West Coast. Mr F. W. Kerr has returned to Napier. Mrs C. Baxter, of Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth. Mr F. Stevens, of Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth. Mr N. W. Jones has left on a holiday visit to Gisborne. Mr C. Gordon, of Christchurch, is Visiting relatives on the West’Coast. Mr and Mrs E. L. McKeon, of Christchurch returned home by yesterday’s express. Mr F. Qualter, who has been visiting relatives at Greymouth, returns by this morning’s express to Oamaru. Cardinal Bourne is in a critical condition, after two years’ illness, states a London cable. Mr B. Killeen, the Wellington Rugby representative player, has been transferred to Auckland. Mr Alan Hancock and Miss May Reddell, Christchurch, arc visiting Mr and Mrs A. Burt, Kumara June tion. Mrs Aicken, of Aickens, who has been Postmistress at Aickens for forty years, resigned her position on December 31, owing to ill health. The newly appointed Postmistress, Mrs J. Evans, takes over her duties hs from January Ist inst.

The marriage took place recently at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, of Iris Eileen, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Turk, Blackball, to Ernest James, third son of Mr and Mrs J. C. Wilson, Cobden. Archdeacon Jermyn officiated.

Miss Eltfie Farrelly, organiser of the working women and the Movement Against War and Fascism, arrived by Monday’s -express. Miss Farrelly intends to set up committees for this work, especially among women in the Grey and Buller districts.

The death has occurred at Nelson of Mr Louis J. Frank, J.P., a director of Buxton and Coy. Ltd., with whom he had been for fifty-five years, thirty-seven as director. He was a past Chief Ranger in the Forester’s, and took a leading part in horticultural matters.

A London cable records the death of Edward Hillman, Managing Director of Hillman’s Airways. After the war. deceased purchased a motor car which he hired out. He gradually built up motor and coach services, and he founded In 1932 Hillman’s Airways, which was recently formed into a public company with £150,000 capital.

The death of Martha Elizabeth Anne Deakin, aged 72, widow of Alfred Deakin, a former Prime Minister of Australia, is announced from Melbourne. Mrs Deakin was widely known for her philanthropic work, particularly in connection with returned sol diers.
