BRITISH RAILWAYS

1935 EFFORTS To Recover Trade (Aus & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received December 28 at 8.55 p.m.) LONDON, December 28. British railway companies arc spending sixteen millions sterling on developments on 1935. The Great Eastern Company is building ninety-five locomotives, including ten of the Castle type, similar to the “Cheltenham Flyer,” the world’s fastest steam train.

Other companies are planning for diesel engines, streamlined carriages, additional electrification of lines, improvement of stations, and 13.530 more passenger and good vehicles to cope with greater traffic demands, following on a revival of trade, and an extension of cheap travel.
