The annual Conservative Conference eon chided at Bristol with a masf? meeting when Mr Baldwin delivered an address in which he reviewed the improvement of conditions in Britain achieved since the present Government took office. He appealed to in* dustries regularly -working oventime to give employment to additional people by reversion to nomal hours. He- suggested it was a national duty to make such an effort. There were now 80'0,000 more people actually at work in Britain jthan when the present Government came into power. He cited official figures of the League of Nations, which showed that comparing the first six months of the present year with the same period in 1928, the industrial output in Britain actually increased by 4 per cent., while there had been decreases in most other leading countries.

Mr Baldwin reaffirmed faith in the principles of the Conservative Party, but said it was the duty and re-spb-n--fiihility of the leader to interpret Ithose principles according to the i need of the times. He added amid cheers: “I am at present leader of this Party. So long as I, remain in that position I am going to lead i't.”
