HONEYMOON TOWN

SUGGESTION FOR WHANGAREI. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oqtober 8. The suggestion was made at a meeting of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce that honeymoon coupjes be invited to spend the Christmas holidays in Whangarei, and that free enterjtaiiiment facilities be provided for them. The idea came from Air J. Burfoot, who said that Greitna Green and Reno were known the world over as places where marriage was easy and divorce simple. W!hy should not Whangarei be known as the honeymoon holiday resort? The suggestion was that (there should be set up a honeymoon committee and that honeymooners be invited to spend theip holiday in Whangarei. On arrival they would go to (this committee and receive a. card entitling them to: (1) Free admission to any picture theatre or dance; (2) Free member.dhip to any snorts body; (3) A free bus ride.

The honeymoon committee, it was suggested should, organise a series of| excursions tioi places of interest. In addition, it could (offer a prize of, say, £5 to- the youngest coup'le to visit Whangarei during a. specified time, and £5 to the oldest couple. It was decided, on ‘the motion of Mr Burfoot, that the scheme be discussed by the chamber’s publicity committee.
