MOA SKELETON
DISCOVERY IN POVERTY BAY. (Per Press Association.) . GISBORNE, October 8. Workmen engaged on road construction on Ngakaroa Road, near Ormond, unearthed what appears to have been a complete skeleton of a moa. Unfortunately the importance of the discovery was not realised, and the bones were soon 6 distributed in many directions. Judging by the number of bones in the deposit, it is assumed that a complete skeleton had been present, as portions recovered extended from skull to toes. One interesting feature was the quantity of small pebbles, about a double handful in all, which had undoubtedly come from the crop of the bird, as they were in a compact group adjacent to the bones of the neck. The discovery was made in a bank of papa clay, the formation of which suggested at one time the existence of a eave which had fallen v .
