ROYAL WEDDING
PRIVY COUNCIL HELD. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. October 0. The King held a. Privy Council at Buckingham Palace, at which His Majesty gave his formal consent to the marriage of Princess Marina anti Prince Geo,*ge. The Council was one of the most representative held in recent years, two members of the Royal Family, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Connaught, being present. The Council was the first Staite function in which the Prime Minister (Mr Ramsay MacDonald) has paiticipated since his return from a health tour.
By a fortunate occurrence, three statesmen who hold or have held ‘he office of Prime Minister in Dominion Governments were also in London and attended the Council. They were Mr R. B. Bennett (Canada), General J. C. Smuts (South Africa), and Mr S. M. Bruce (Australia).
The Council meeting Lasted a quarter of an hour, after which the don:s were opened, and Prince George entered. Tie shook hands with ea<-h Privy Councillor, and laughingly thanked them for formally acceding to his marriage. He was not qualified to attend the meeting, not being a Privy Councillor.
