There was a big field, including prominent Canter bu.rv riders. J. L. Richards (Christchurch) one of tßhe scratch men secured third place and fastest time. Placings were:—L. Taylor, Christchurch (lamin) 4 AUCKLAND, October 6. In the 100-mile amateur cycle race. Papakura to Ngaruawahia and return seventy rider:, started. Results: N. Croker (43min) 1, J. Norman (39min) 2, W. Matheson (39) 3, W. R. Walker (35min) 4. The winner’s time was shr 32min 59sec Fastest 'time went to Brown (scr) shr lOtnin 38sec. LONDON. October 5.

The English cyclist, Southall, rodo 457 miles in twenty-four hours beating Opperman’s record by 154 hours, despite numerous minor delays, including nine puneftures. CYCLE ROAD RACE. The Grey United Cycling Club’s race to Paroa and back twice, held yester day morning, attracted thirteen riders The junior riders did well again, filling firflt and second places. At the turn Malone was leading, closely followed b v J. Archer, Lewis, M'orland and Taylor. At this stage 'the scratch man P. Duffy, had not gained on the 40 seconds men, the Hogarth-Clarke com binaticn proving too strong for him. The results wore: J. Archer (smin 10 sec) 1; M. Malone (6min) 2; ,T. Lark Ing (Imin 45sec) 3. Won by a. dozen length:,. L. ’Hogarth (40see) gained fastest time, his time being 34ntin 30 sec.- Other starters were: I. Baker (ft min), ,T. Taylor (5.10). R. Lewis, D. Morland (4.20), D'. Johnston (3min), J. Daniel, W. Innes (1.45), D. Clarke (40sec), and Duffy (scr).
