A cablegram frdm Sydney records the death of Doctor Chisholm Ross, who was recognised as an authority on brain diseases. He was formerly Government Medical Officer in charge of the principal mental hospitals of New South Wales. He was seventysix years of age.
Mr W. H. McLaughlin, of the staff of the Grey mouth Te'ephone Ex change, leaves to-morrow on transfer to Christchurch. Mr McLaughlin is a well-known West Coast representative cricketer, and is Secretary of tin* West Coast Cricket Association and United Cricket Club.
To-day is the first anniversary of the death of Mr IT. E. Holland, which occurred at Huntly. He was attending the funeral of the Maori King, Te Rata Mahuta, on Taupiri Mount, where he took ill at the graveside, lb recorded somewhat ami "as re * moved to the residence of the Mayor «»f Huntly, where he expired Infer.
A telegram from Christchurch states that the Prime Minister. Mr Forbes, when he made a call at Rangiora on Saturday morning en route to Cheviot to spend the week-end. gave an emphatic denial to the rumour that has been circulated in the district ’that he does not intend to contest ITurunui seat at next election.
Rev. Gordon Munro McKenzie, B.Aformerly of Greymouth, has been appointed Headmaster of the Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, to succeed Rev. E. Edmonds. who resigned some weeks ago. Mr McKenzie is at present Vicar of Taihape, but before his ordination was in 'the teaching profession, having taught at the Greymouth District High Schoo] and Christchurch West District High School. From 1927 till his ordination in 1931, he wag Assistant Master at the Cathedral School,—Assn.
The death occurred at her res'donee on Saturday morning of Mrs Charlotte Lewis, licensee of 'the Recreation Hotel. The deceased was weTlknown and esteemed both in Kumara mid Greymouth, and many friends will regret her death, which resulted after a lengthy illness. The late Mrs Lewis was 52 years of age, and was a native of Ballymena. County Antrim. Ireland. She resided for mary years at Kumara. conducting Pearn’s Hotel for ten years, and then came to G'revmouth. Her husband predeceased her by 19 years. She is survived by throe daughters. Mesdames Woodley (Greymou'th) and G. Fitzgerald (KumaraL and Miss Maureen Lewis (Greymouth), and one son. Mr David Lewis, of the Railway Department (Greymouth). The funeral wil tak** place at Karoro Cemetery this morning.
