RUNANGA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting- of the Runanga Girls’ Club was held in 'the Presbyterian Had at 7.30 on Thursday evening. The hostesses for the evening were Alisses M. Hull and J. >Heward, who performed their duities in a very able manner. The members were very sorry to note that there were three absentees, but hope they will make an endeavour to keep next month’s meeting free from engagements. The best d’oyley competition was won by Miss Isabel Duncan, and Aliss Hilda Powell ran a good second. There was a magnificent variety of d’oyleys displayed, making the judging very difficult. The compe'tition game, “Popular Business.* Alen’’ was won by Aliss Helen Neilson. 'Phe monthly meet'iug of the Ruuanga. Women’s Institute was held in the. Presbyterian Hall Mrs A. Boddy presiding over a largo attendance. The treasurer. Mrs Barker, gave a satisfactory report on the financial state of the Institute. Dt was decided that o social evening be held early in November to ra'ise funds for the Federation and the In.•ititu'te. The roll-call was “Different Uses for Sugar.” One new member was welcomed. The guest of the afternoon was Miss “Willis, of Paroa. A competition. “Something from a yard .of Brit way, not to exceed 2s 6d. ’’ was won by Airs Oak.’ey and Airs AlcLeod equal 1 Airs Griffiths 2. and Airs Houghton and Airs Kelly, equal 3. Airs Lesley, of Karoro, gave an interesting demom/ration of lampshade making.
