The “News Chronicle’’ understands that Downing Street has ordered every member of <binet who has held < flice since the year 1919 to stir render instantly all of the documents in their possession. ‘Where Ministers have died ince J 919 they request has been made t!.i there executors. This sudden, unexpected demand, says the paper, has puzzled and angered the cx-Ministers coneerened, some f whom see in the move an attempt to muzzle criticism of the complicated ■o’itical m ves of 1931. Others believe the move is intended to prevent any former Members of Cabinet using the official documents lor the purpose of the'ir memoirs or for their newspaper articles. An oldestablished tradition allows members of Cabinet to keep a complete copy of a. 1.1 of the official documents with which tlhev have dealt.
