AUCKLAND SOLICITOR Requests to be Heard (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assay (Received October 5 a't 7.25 p'.m.) SYDNEY, October 5. At the companies commission to-day reference to a lengthy cablegram which he ihad received from the New Zealand solicitor. Mr Hampson, of the firm of Hampson and Wiseman, was made by '.he Commissioner, Judge Haise Rogers. The cablegram, he said contained an urgent request to be allowed *lO give evidence, e:pccial.y regarding the Edgecumbe Forests Coy., the Kotahi Lands Coy., and the Overana Coy., in which he wais Vitally interested. Hampson said that he rou'd noc understand why the New South Wales* Government had added these companies to the li.-it. The cable at eged that the New Zealand Government had added the Overana Coy. to its list wit h nt any justification or excuse, and had acted on the report of the Barton Commiss'ion, which had “completely misrepresented the condition if these companies.’ 7 The Commissioner intimated, that (he would he adjourning until October 16 ami if Mr Hampson Wished to come forward, he could then do so.

Air W. W. Monahan. K.C. agreed, saying that the companies mentioned “just came on the fringe of things.’’ an 1 he had no desire to cross-examine Hampson.

'l’he Commissioner eventually decided to cable Mr Hampson, informing him that Air Alonahan had publicly stated tha-t no i-oflection on Air Hampson was suggested in connection witili the Edgecumbe. Kotahi or Overana Coys. All hough these companies had been added Co the schedule of his commission, there had been on in of their affairs. They had been mentioned merely in connection with dealings with certain assets of the Sterling (’oy. The cable added “that the ('omm'ission would hear Air Hampson abour October 16 if he desired to give evidence.

Air Alonahan submitted suggestions by 'the Institute of Chartered Account, ants regarding amendments to the Companies Act. The Commission 'then adjourned un til the week after next.
