ASYLUM ESCAPEES

Tour to Auckland FROM SUNNYSIDE. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 5. Two patients who escaped from Sunnyside Mental Hospital, near Christchurch, almost two weeks ago, succeeded in making their way to Auckland. They have now presented themselves to the Auckland Mental Hospital authorities, and are in the institution at Avondale. While th,e details as to how the two men eame to leave Sunnyside are not available, the patients, both of whom are fairly young, evidently experienced no difficulty' in crossing from Lyttelton to Wellington by the into: Island ferry steamer, and avoiding detection. They travelled north to Auckland in easy stages, walking some of the distance, and obtaining rides from motorists. The men had evidently been in Auckland for several clays before they gave themselves up to the Authorities. To do so they travelled by tram car, and during the journey they commentA ed to a man on the tram that they had become tired of travelling about. They seemed especially satisfied that they had been able to escape suspicion throughout their long journey, and that they were returning to supert vision on their own initiative.
