GOLD MINING

The report of the Golden Gully Sluicing and Development Company for the annual meeting is as follows: — I beg to report on the activities at Collingwood as follows: I duly inspected the construction of workmen’s huts and blacksmith’s shop, and have now to report that these arc all completed and a first-class job has been made at a very reasonable cost. The employ ees are now comfortably housed, and complete satisfaction is being obtained. The 6)00 feet of pipes recently purchased by the Company reprcstuit a particularly good bargain. Low Level Race. —This has now been completed, and a full eight heads of water is flowing into Eyre’s Gully. During the past fortnight preparations have been made for bulk testing in Eyre’s Gully, and I now have pleasure in repoiiing that this is now in progress. As already indicated the yardage which this race can deal with is very limited, but it is very pleasing to know that after the removal of 6 feet of

tailings, we arer now on to virgin wash, which is estimated to be worth at least 5s per yard. Two men only are engaged on these operations,, and for the past week won just a little over one ounce of gold, mainly from tailings A pipe line is beieng laid from a low level race pen-stock to Pannikan Gully, where a similar face will be opened up and prospects here indicate that similar values are present. This face should be in operation in about two weeks’ time. I have to report that approximately six-yards of wash treated from Scott’s Claim prior to the Company taking it over, shows values of over Idwt per yard. The survey of the main high level race has been completed. The first mi’e and a-half from the pen-stock is over verv easy country, and no difficulties in any shape or form will be experienced in construction work here. From here onwards to the dam there will be a certain amount of fluming required. and it will be necessary to construct several short viaducts. A track has now been constructed from the pen-stock right through to the dam along the grade line for the race. Boring operations on the Para Para Inlet will commence at an early date. Bismarck Range (Lucknow) Gold Exploration, N.L., will pay a dividend of 3d per share on October 31. ’•Bell Hooper Cromwell gold return for the wee]s was 30oz sdwt 18gr. Mataki dredge on the eastern boundary struck an old paddock at the end of last week, extending over a distance of 100 ft. This still exists, but it is expected to be through the corner within a couple of days, but the dredge will have it in a part of the face for the next four -weeks. The dredge had a good run for the week, there being no mechanical defects. Stafford Sluicing, Ltd., reports a wash-up of 18oz sdwt for 21 shifts. The wash treated has contained a large quantity of heavy boulders, which have delayed progress. Returns should materially improve -when operations enable the bottom wash to be treated, which should be in the near future. The Snowy River return for the period ending September 28, was 6oz 14 dwt 13gr for 122 hours’ work.

Otago Scheelite and Mining Company reports as follows:—A clean up at the battery for the end of the month look place on September 28. Since the commencement of crushing wo have treated 180 tons of ore, the yield being five lons of scheelite and lloz 14dwt of retorted gold.
