Mr. E. Casey, assistant general manager of railways, speaking at the annual reunion of the Railway Officers’ Institute in Wellington on Saturday night, paid a high tribute to the services rendered by the officers, whose courage and loyalty to the department, he said, had not been equalled in the history of any service in New Zealand. “When there appears to be sufficient to warrant a further restoration of privileges,” he said. “1 feel certain that not only the Railways Department and the management but also the Government itself will be only too pleased to see that reasonable and full measure of justice is given to those men who have carried the burden and troubles of the country during the past, few years.” The department had passed the worst of the years, hut it had to continue to make things better still.
