NEW ZEALAND CLUES Was She From Canterbury ? (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 4. As the result of information, police investigations are being made here today in view of the possibility that the girl found murdered in a. culvert nea r Albury (Australia) came from Christ church. Detectives, with drawings and photos of dental work, interviewed several local dentists. One statement is that the murdered girl was identical with the widow of a man who" commit ted suicide in certain city flats about two years ago. This woman afterwards left for the North Island, with the intention of going to Australia, and has not been heard of since by her relatives here. A sister was brought in froth the Methven district to-day. to view the photographs. She declared that the murdered girl bears a remarkable resemblance to her sister, a Mrs. Cotton, formerly Miss Croat. Also that the published description is definitely applicable to her sister. Tn this, the Methven woman is borne out by another sister, Mrs. Crouch. Mrs. Cotton’s husband was a, tram conductor. Miss Croat and Mrs. Crouch, of Meth ven, when they saw the reconstructed drawings of the victim in a newspaper, saw a resemblance to their sister, and went at once to the local police at Methven. Mrs. Cotton last visited Methven in ; April, 1933. In October, 1933, Mrs. Cotton was seen at Auckland by a cousin, and then repeated a statement that she was proceeding shortly to Australia. She has not been heard of since. Mrs. Cotton is described as an attractive girl and musical. To-day, with detectives, Miss Croat ; visited various dentists in Christchurch, as Mrs. Cotton had dental work < done here in 1933, similar to that de- 1 scribed in the police records. ANOTHER GIRL. BELIEVED THE VICTIM. CHRISTCHURCH, October 4. In connection with the Albury mystery, Mrs S. Knight, of North Brighton, believes the victim of the murder to be a girl named Molly Ryan, whom the Knights knew when they lived in Australia. Mrs Knight said that this girl was an orphan. She had looked after Mrs Knight’s children.
