ROUSING WELCOME By Crowded City (Aus, & N Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 4 at 8.15 p.m.) PERTH, October 4. Prince Henry to-day received a rousing welcome on his first landing on Australian soil this morning at Fremantle. 'Thousands of people lined the waterfront at Fremantle from dawn onwards. 11.M.5. Sussex berthed in daylight, and was greeted by a solute of twenty-one guns from the Australian cruisers Canberra and Australia. There was tumultuous cheering when the soldierly figure of the Duke ap pea red on the bridge, and was received i»y the Lieutenant-Governor, Sir James Mitchell. The first address of welcome was presented by the Mayor of Fremantle. Then came an address from the municipality of (’ollie, which had been brought by relays of amateur runners 140 miles, they running overnight. The Royal progress by ear from Fremantle to Perth was marked by scenes of great enthusiasm. Prince Henry was the central figure of an impressive ceremony at the State War Memorial in King’s Park at noon, where in the presence of forty thousand people, he placed a wreath on the memorial. He received an address of welcome and loyalty to the Crown from the city of Perth, which he fittingly acknowledged. Prince Henry’s speech was heard clearly by wireless in all parts of Australia.

Prince Henry afterwards motored slowly through lanes of cheering people to Government House, and in the afternoon he attended and opened the Royal Show. The city is crowded to capacity.
