(Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 4. When the meeting of the native owners of Maori forests tut Bruce Bay, under the presidency of Mr Fordham. Native Land Court Registrar, resumed yesterday to consider offers for the timber on 'the areas by the Bruce Bay Timber Coy. after having dealt with three blocks in the morning, an offer of £739 19s for the (timber on Block 5, Section 896, Bruce Bay S.D.. was accepted by the owners. The remaining sections, Blk. 8 Section 892, Bruce Bay a.nd Blk. 5. Sections 890 and 900, involving £4367 Is 10d, were adjourned for hearing at .Wellington a number of North Island Maoris being interested therein.

With regard to the request that the Railway Department operate on Stew art and Chapman's tram line from Ross to Kakapbta/hi. Duff. At the School Committee mooting last evening the dental nurse reported that operations during September totalled 311. the total attendance being 149. Pupils were treated from .the fol’owing schools: Hokitika. Wood-tock, Manamii, Kanieri, Convent and Humphreys. Mr S. 6. D’alziel, Lower Ko katahi, wrdte regarding the Hokitika D. 11.5. Board funds, stating he understo- d there was money which should be available to help to send pupils to •he High School, but which had been appropriated by the Government. He desired to know what -was being done to recover the money in the interests of the children. Some parents were finding it. difficult to keep their children ait the -school, and any assistance w>ould bo welcomed. Mr Shannon suggested the matter be sent on to 'the High School Board of Governors for consideration. It was decided that this step be taken. Mr Shannon thought if ■the country school committees were to take active steps it might be instrumental in having something satisfactory done. It was also decided to request the Education Board 'to gramt a boarding allowance to country scholars attending the High School. However the Federated Clubs made no move to secure finance which doubtless would have been readily subscribed, judging by the philanitrophy and support accorded in 'the past. The matter of eon tinuation by tire Federation for the present dropped and Mr Parry withdrew the plane and discontinued 'training. Canterbury-Westland Air Transport recently formed with Mr J. C. Mer eer us manager and pilot, has now eonimcjtieed -tperations at the ’drome and a large hangar is in courso of erection. If the local pageant proceeds are granted to the Club by the Federation, sufficient will be subscribed locally to continue operations. The Club would then have the Government Moth, (to be loaned in March next), the Redwing gide by side seaiter, and Miles Hawk monoplane, three distinct types of machines for training. The Club spent £2OO on levelling the drome. Mr P. Renton is eulogised for Iris good work, and a . tribute paid to his late brother, Flying Officer J. Ronton, who was killed with Mr J. D. Lynch on Mt. Yuriw’ihate.
