DUNEDIN J.C. Racing at Wingatui PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY. (By the Delver.) The Dunedin .Jockey (’lnk has received excellent acceptances for the firs l , day of its Spring meeting opening today al Wingatui. Chief interest will be centred on the McLean Stakes, of four furlongs, when most of the southern juvenile aspirants for classic honours will be engaged. 'There being only five days between Dunedin am! the recent fixture at Oamaru. form at the latter should be a valuable guide to prospects to-day. Below are the acceptances and a short review of the card. SPRING HURDLES. 1?. miles.— Black Duke 9.12. Jaunt 9.9. Taboo 9.4, Lycidas 9.3. Palmary 9.2, Prince Tractor 9.1. Red Lance. Towing, Ro minder 9.0. Of the nine acceptors in the Spring Hurdles, five were starters at Oamaru. and the form revealed there points to Jaunt Lycidas Black Duke TRIAL HANDICAP. G furlongs.— Unseen 8.12, Aro An.-. Oliver 8.11. Royal Pal 8.10, Chidden, Darien, Flout., Foreign Star. General O ’Duffy, Horn’s Reef. Honeste. Lucky Locket. Made Money, Bkit herskite, Si'lvei Lark, Sestie, Unox, Coat of Arms. New Note, Autumn Wind, Taurumai 8.9. With twenty-one acceptors in the Trial Handicap, and only 3lbs. between the lot, one may expect a turn-up but a trio that is sure to be well backed is Honeste Unseen Blatherskite MAUNGATUA HANDICAP. 1 mile. —Saxophone 9.0. Osculate 8.12, Knocklong 8.9. Vocal 8.7. Strong Light 8.5. Bold Brigand 7.13, Sungem

7.11. Quite Soon 7.9, Orris 7.7. A good even lot will compete in the Maungatua Handicap of one mile and the high scale of weights will suit those at the head of lhe list. In this form points Io Osculate Vocal Saxophone ELECTRIC HANDICAP, G furlongs.—Mobile 9.0, Palermo, Silver Streak 8.12.. Waterpower SA Kerbside 8.1, Red Boa 8.0, Guarantee 7.9, Master Anomaly, Fracas 7.8, Cherry Queen, Fairweather, Master Reynard 7.0. Included in the dozen accepted for the Electric Handicap (the open sprint) there are four fresh horses (so far as recent racing is concerned) in Kerbside, Master Anomaly, Cherry Queen ami Pair Weather. Kerbside comes from a stable at present, having a good “trot’’ and Master Anomaly, although getting on in years, is reported to be very well and with 7.8 is nicely handicapped. He will also have the going in his favour. Form disclosed at Oamaru last Saturday shows that Silver Streak is fast regaining his brilliancy. Guarantee has improved and ihe evergreen Red Boa is as well as ever. Moblie did not show up but may go belter here with a stronger horseman up. Palermo has not done anything since Geraldine and will be all the better for the let-up. Fracas got badly left at Oamaru, but if she gets away with the field is capable of running a fast six. A popular trio will be Silver Streak Red Boa Guarantee MOSGTEL HANDICAP. II miles.— The Smuggler 9.1., Vcntrac 8.7. Waterpower 8.0, Totolomai 7.13, Prince Vai 7.12, Steeton 7.9. Red Racer 7.6, Silver Sight, Cleaner 7.4. All nine acceptors in the Alosgiel Handicap are N.Z. Cup nominees and their various efforts will be watched with interest. The difference of the extra quarter of a mile disposes of the form displayed at Oamaru and among the starters are horses which have sp

far not raced since the spring campaign commenced. The Smuggler (third in last N.Z. Cup) holds pride of place witli 9.1, and taking a line on his victory in the Great Autumn with 8.0 he is not. overburdened here. Ventrac has disappointed recently but no notice can be taken of his poor showing at Oamaru, where he was badly interfered with. Water power also struck trouble in the same race when in a winning position. Totolomai has won several cups during the past season on the Southern circuit and has a handy weight. Prince Vai is rapidly racing into form. Steeton raced well during the earlier part of last season, winning a, couple of handicaps in fair company. Red Racer has shown during the past two weeks that he is not. yet a spent light and it is in his favour that he is partial to Wingatui. Silver Sight was just beaten in the last few yards at Oamaru last week and with Horowhenua out of the way Beban’s gelding may improve on his last effort. Cleaner has slumped badly in her last few starts. That she can go the distance is proved by her racing at the National meeting, when she finished fourth in a mile and a quarter on the second day, and on the final day ran third with 8.0 over nine furlongs. Public support will no doubt favour Totolomai Steeton Silver Sight ATcLEAN STAKES, 5 furlongs — Battle Morn. Fireguard, Greek Shepherd. Hanlon. .Tack Horne? - . Kinnnill. Silver Coat. Viking, Hororata, Penelope, Silver Sail, Sunny Jean, fillv bv Paper Money—Rnvonna. The’McLean Stakes is the first of the South Island classics to be contested and most of the prominent, stables
