ANNUAL BANQUET. To mark the end of the 1934 fontball seasun, a very successful banquet S'as held by the Marist Old Boys’ League Footbull Club at Henb Moure’s Cabaret on Tuesday evening. After the toast of ‘‘Th? Pope and the King” had been duly honoured, Mr C. Hal!'., President of the M. 8.0.8., cordially welcomed ihe members of the West Coast Rugby League Management Committee, Club members, kindred Club members and supporters, and expressed the wish that all present would in future meet tut the end of each season with the same spirit 'Of sportsmanship and enthusiasm as they haj that evening. Mr J. Anderson, proposing the toast of the “M. 8.0.8. heaß'.ily congratulated the Club on its sportsmanship of members, and on the success during the past season. Mr (i. Davis, M. 8.0.8. Club Captuin, i,< responding, stressed the fact that the Cub was organised with the sp'ritual and social as well as the sporting side of life always in mind. During the season, members had all attended the Club’s annua]. Communion breakfast. Their annual ball had been very successful, as were many others of their social functions., and this sea son they had been successful in capturing ihe Championship Cup, and were in a sound financial position. Tn responding to the toast <.f the ‘Management Committee (proposed by Mr T. Lord), Messrs A. 11. Me Kane and R. Harrington thanked the p’ayers, referees and supporters for the r co-operation during the season land expressed the belief that considering the wonderful number of young players taking the field this season, that pnospects never looked brighter tor Ihe League code on the West Coast.
Tn responding to the toast ‘‘The Clergy” (proposed by the Chairman') Rev. Father Gregory complimented Club members on their at ten'ion to the spiritual a fid social las well as tlie football side of life. He apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Fathers Long, Holohan /and McKeon, and assure,] all present that the Clergy would assist in everv way possible -towiards sound organisation and sportsmanship. Other toasts honoured (were ‘‘Kindred Clubs”. proposed by Mr B. Casev and responded to by Messrs L. Hunter (Runanga), J. Anderson (Pirates). G. Weir (Ngahere). K. Oreagh and J. M.eDona’d (Brunner). L. Phillips (St. Columba Cub), ami I. Mcllroy (Blackball); ‘‘The Press” proposed by Mr. J. Peban: “The Teams”, proposed by’ Mr J. Gritfen and responded to by Messrs T. O 'Connor (seniors). W. Moore anj Keddie (juniors); ‘‘Referees’ Association”, proposed by Mr B. Rathbun, and responded to by Messrs J. Griffen. B Casey and J. Roberts; ‘‘The O’.d Bovs and Suppoife.s”, proposed bv ♦he Chairman and responded to hv Mr M. Buckley.
The banquet concluded with the presentation of the Sen or Championship Cup to Mr T. O’Connor, by Mr M.Kane. who heartil v p.ongrntulnted the team on -their success during the season, and Mr O’Connor on his selection i'n the South island team. During the evening, musical and nlm ut onarv items were rendered bv Messrs E. O’Brien, B. Qasev, .1 Beban, M. McDonald. T Brown and P. Blanehfield.
