STORM RELIEF

From Unemployment Fund FOR WAIRARAPA PEOPLE. MASTERTON, October 3. Following on representations to the

Unemployment Board for assistance dealing with urgent matters arising out of the storm destruction, Hon. J. ( A. Young advises the Mayor of Masterton that it has been decided to extend all proper assistance by way of labour services as a practical expression of the Government’s sympathy with those, who have suffered from the effects of the storm. Instructions are being issued that all registered and eligible unemployed on the Afasterton register who can be made available by the certifying officer may be employed by the Borough Council for the purpose of assisting to the extent which the Council deems justifiably chargeable on the public funds in carrying out urgent remedial cases which would not otherwise be undertaken. This arrangement will apply for two weeks, during which period the men may be employed five days a week at 10s a day at the cost of the Unemployment Fund.
