Auckland Decision NO CHILDREN'S GATHERING. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 3. A decision not to arrange for any children’s gathering on the occasion <>f the Duke of Gloucester’s visit to Auckland was reached to-day at the meeting of the Auckland Education Board. The decision followed on the receipt of a letter from the City Council, asking whether ithe Board would be prepared 'to organise a gathering at the Domain on December 27. The Chairman, Mr T. U. Wells, said that ho had been approached on the matter and he had exp'ressed the opinion that it would be very difficulty to arrange, lie remarked: We had displays by school children during the visits of the present King and Queen, the Prince of Wales and ’the Duke and Duchess of York, and they were great successes. On this occasion, however, it is proposed to hold a gathering ten days after the. schools have broken tip for the holidays.

The Chairman read replies from the headmasters of (the City school?. who had been asked for their opinions. The great majority considered 'that it would be inadvisable and imp'racticab’e to arrange for a display after the schools had dosed. Tt was stated that not one headmaster had been able to offer full cooperation, although many stated that such teachers as were in town would be prepared to do what they could to in the matter. Tt was decided to advise ithe City f’ounc'il that, while the Board woubl have done everything possible to arrange a good display in ordinary- circumstances it was considered impossible under the special conditions that would obtain during the present visit.
