ATHLETICS

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 2. ”There’s nothing in it at all. J never saw any of the German women athletes having a shave,” said H. K. Brainsby, Empire Games athlete, ou his return to Auckland. He added that the Czechoslovak and German girls were very strong, of the masculine type, and the South African girls, more or less as a joke, suggested some of them were men. Nobody treatei the suggestion seriously. Mr Brainsby said the short, period of training allowed to New Zealanders prevented them producing their best form. He spoke of Lovelock and Phil Edwards as the two great runners at the Games.
