HOKITIKA JUBILEE
THE ARRANGEMENTS. (Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 2. A genera] meeting of all those interested in the Westland Jubilee, to In? held during Xmas week, was held at the County Chambers, when those present included Messrs W. Jeffries (chairman), F- McGregor, W. Wilson, R. Adamson, JL T. Barry, A. Nancekivell, J. N. Robinson. F. McCabe, J. G. .Lakin, C. J. King, (i. Adamson, C. L. Harper, IL Stapleton, A- IL Lawn, D. Breeze, Malloch, R. Herring, J. J. Mclntosh, 11. Wells, J. Tennent, T. W. Duff, M. IL Houston, .1. L. Turner, T. Cumming, P. Renton. J. L. Menzies, Tainui, Webb, J. J. Mclntosh, junr.. D. Stevenson, junr.. C. Preston, A. Cutlmsh, A. Thompson, I>. <l. Evans, and others. The Chairman said it was pleasing !<• find such a good attendance, with a view to completing arrangements for the jubilee gathering. Mr 1). J. Evans had by unceasing work helped in the tine progress made. 'l'he promises received equalled those of the 1914 jubIt was proposed to hold one huge procession of the trades of the town, decorated vehicles and a special position in the procession would be given promise of a visit of the Runanga Pipe to the old identities. 'They had the Band, of the services of lhe Municipal Band, and they could be assured of •' revival of the old time Kokatahi band. Mr Radford and Mr Robinson had given considerable thought to the illumination of the town.
Mr I*'. McGregor stated that Al*' Kelly and Air Woolhousc would do their utmost to revive the old Kokatahi Band. v There was a promise of an old vehicle display, while Arahura promised a native display. It was decided that the procession assemble at the Pioneers’ Monument, march up Fitzherbert Street, to Hampden and Revell Streets, down Hamilton Street to Sewell Street, to the African War Al emorial, and the Soldiers' Hall.
It was resolved that a special posi tion be given to Aliss Hudson, daughter of the late John R. Hudson, one of the earliest arrivals; also to tradesmen’s displays and old-time vehicles and general public display.
A committee was set up to arrange for old time coaches and vehicles for the procession, consisting of Messrs IL Stapleton, A. IL Lawn, 11. Wells and T. Cumming.
Mr J. X. Robinson reported on behalf of Air Radford and the Kanieri Electric, Ltd., that it would take 30<> lamps for four arches. If the committee arranged with the Alunieipal Electric Department, Christchurch, the company would floodlight the Pioneer Afonument and Government Buildings. It was decided that business people would be invited to specially light up their premises. The question of arranging for sports was discussed, and a committee was set up to arrange, Air F. McCabe to be secretary, and Air G. Adamson, junr., assistant-secretary, the committee to include Messrs Harper, Alenzies, G. Adamson, senr., T). Breeze, E. W. Heenan, Davern, Turner, Ferguson, Tainui, Webb and J. ,T. AVilliams.
Air Parry reported a meeting was being held on Thursday evening in connection with the aerial displays. Air Evans said the functions could be made very successful ones, and of great value to the town. The question of accommodation was going to be a big one. He hoped that every preparation would be made as he looked forward to a very large attendance of outsiders for the whole week. Mr C. J. King, on behalf of the Gun Club, stated arrangements were being being made for a shoot to be held. Air J. J. Mclntosh said the question of accommodation was a big one. He was practically booked up. Townspeople should be asked to arrange privately for accommodation. At a meeting of the Executive Committee, a letter was received from Mr Nolan, Afatainui, agreeing to request •for assisting the movement.
Air G. W. Keller reported on available accommodation in the town for Christmas week.
It was resolved that Messrs Keller and Nancekivell and Hall be a committee to arrange hotel accommodation, and that a committee for private accommodation be set up to make a canvass, consisting of Mesdaines ParkJhill, Stuart and Benjamin. ‘t Mr J. G. Lakin reported on in-
quiries made in regard to the fireworks display. The ordering of the fireworks and arrangements were left to the Fire Brigade to complete, it being stated that the fireworks display would prove a very attractive one, and that substantial donations towards the cost were being received.
