Noveml •• 30, December I—T'eilding1—T'eilding N<>\ • ;;(), December I -Winton Promising Juvenile. On his decisive victory in smart time, I he l ink (’oat — Lady Links colt, Kinjnonll, looks like being a good proposition to follow among the .juveniles in the South Island. 'l'his colt, who is traiiie<l by J. W. Pankhurst al Washdyke. won with ridiculous ease and had hi' been pushed eould have registered even better time than the Iniin. 2sec. registered for the five furlongs. Another Second. Silver Sight added another Io his long list of seconds when Horowhenivi .just got up in time to beat him in the last few yards al Oamaru last Saturday. If Mr. A. Beban‘s horse repeats his forward running at Dunedin this week-end he should more than pay his way. Inconsistent. The action of the stipendiary steward in enquiring into the running of Guarantee as compared with his efforts at Gerahlim', is to be commended, but why should he be so “inconsistent'?” Why were the connections of Davolo and Some Shambles not asked the same question in relation to their respective showings at the Ashburton and Geraldine meetings? At the former place both horses were among the last to finish, while only a week later who 1 heavily backed they fought out the finish at Orari. Apparently “inconsistency'' is not confined to racehorses. Good Thing Beaten. Travenna has raced unluckily in his last four starts, having filled second berth on each occasion. At Oamaru last Saturday he was a “good thing” beaten. His jockey “ went for the doctor” and slogged the Tractor horse with the slick a long way from home wit!, the result that he was left without a kick when Hunting Go tackled him at the distance. It is a great 1 by that a few more capable horse men are not available in the Domi”, ion, as, taken as a whole the standard of riding at present is very moderate. New Zealand-bred horses, as on Saturday. were again fairly well in evidence at the A.J.C. races at Randwick' on Monday. The winner of the Metropolitan Handicap, Waikare, is bv Limond—Waterwings, ami therefore a fall brother to Air. B. IL Winchester’s Zetes. 'l’lie latter is, however, not in the same class as his illustrious brother. The third horse, Nightly, is also a class horse, being the winner of the last New Zealand Derby. The Grantham Stakes winner is also New Zea-land-bred, being by Chief Ruler— Podokes, and the third New Zealandbred winner was Shatter, who has not been very notorious for consistency in the past. LIGHT HARNESS NEWS. TROTTING FIXTURES. (By the Delver.) October 6 —New Brighton T.C. October 13—Waikato T.C. October 20, 22—Auckland T.C. October 20 22—Greymouth T.C. October 22—Oamaru T.C. October 22 —Manawatu T.C. October 27—Wellington T.C. November G, 8, 9—New Zealand Metropolitan T.C. November 22, 24—Forbury Park T.C. November 24, 25—Nelson T.C.

Should Have Won. The effort, of Guy Mauritius from 24 yards was full of merit at Oamaru last Saturday. After catching his field he looked a comfortable winner a. furlong from home but the 3-year-old filly Radiant Gold finished with lightning run in the outer to win by a bare length. It looked as if Doug. Matts was over confident with the favourite and many keen observers say he should not have been beaten. Will Not be long now! Parette, an aged mare in J. Young’s stable should soon begin to pay her wav among slow class trotters during the present season. Although the field was outclassed by the winner, Norma Bingen, Young’s representative neverput a foot wrong and it looks as if Parette’s turn is not far off.

Gamble well named. Gamble, by his erratic, ways, is certainly well-named, as it is a true “gamble” whether he will go away with the field or cut up during a race. At. Methven. on Saturday a lot of money was spilt by his erratic temper. AVhen in a commanding position he closed up when asked a question only to come again when too late.

N Z CUP HANDICAPS. The following handicaps have been declared for fhe New Zealand Trotting Cup, to be decided at (the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting next month:— NEW ZEALAND TROTTING CUP
