West Coast Association ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting <cf the West Coa>t Cricket Association was held in the Town Hall meeting room on Satturday evening, there being present: Messrs J Paterson (Chairman), L. F. Casey (Hokitika Sub-Association), J. Mathews. N. Baylc y (Maris#,). J. McNeish (Brunner), D. Brooks (Kumara), J. Cornislh (Tnangahua Sub-Associa-tion) J Timlin, T. Nicholson (Runanga), W.' Barlow. C. Pike (Oobden). L. East. C. Dewar, N. Iggo. C Mills (Star) and 11. S. Nightingale (United, Acting Secretary). Prior to commencing the business of the meeting, the Chairman referred to the deaths of Messrs W D. Murray (past Chairman), and S. McLean (a member of the Kumara. Club), a motion of condolence being passed in the usual manner. The annual report, as already published in the “Argus’’ was received as satisfactory. Referring to the repo-rft Mr Casey said the Association could congratulate itself on having a very successful season. The dividing of the teams into A and B grades had been a move in the right direction. The A competition had been the best 4 they had in the last eight years, while the B grade had provided better games, and sustained interest in the competition until the end of the season. He congratulated Air Barlow on /the excellence of his wickets. As regards Saturday cricket, those who had wanted it had not come forward, and he did not. see how it was going to progress unless they did The balance sheet, showing a balance of £3B 5s 3d, and excess of assets over liabilities of £44 4s 3d, was received as satisfactory.

Tn reply to a question Mr Nightingale said that the Association had lost about £2B on the year’s workings but included in that, sum was £l5 paid to the Borough Council which was owing from the previous year.

Stokes (Umpires’ Association (delegate). Tt was decided that the Alanagement Committee 'take over the control of Saturday cricket, and that the season commence on Saturday, October 13. Nominations for all grades close on Monday, October 8. and the Alanagement Commitfee will meet on Tuesday October 9.

It was decided that the competitions be conducted on the same scheme as last. year, one round for /the Feary Cun. and then a division into A and B grades, according to positions on the chainpio n sh i p lafl d c r The New Zealand Council advised that an English team would visit New Zealand during the 1935-36 sea on. bad allotted the 1937 season for the visit, of a New Zealand team to England. The Karoro Spoil 1 s Club wrote regarding ‘their excursion on October 21 and advised that they understo'iod a game could be arranged with South Canterbury. It was decided that the Association write to (the Secretary of the South Canterbury Association regarding a game on that date, and that Air Bayle v endeavour to secure a team to make the trip', under the recognition of Ithe Association, it being a recommendation to the Alanagement Committee that in the event of a /team going to Timaru. ‘the fixtures not be postponed on that date.

The Alarist Club wrote suggesting that competition marches commence at 11 am. and continue to 6 pm. with an hour for lunch, -er that the Alarist Cub be allowed to commence their games at 11 a.m. and continue /to 5.30 p m.

After considerable discussion. in which none of flic delegates expressed themselves in favour of Alarist’s suggestion. it was decided Chaif the starting time of matches. 1 30 p.m., should remain as at present, as stated in the rules, but that an effort he made, by writing fo.'fhe clubs f i insure more prompt starting of matches. It was decided to call a meeting of (he Umpire’s Association on Tuesday. October 9. to meet the Management Committee.

The Feary Cup was then presented jo Air L F. Casey (captain of the Alarisf team) and tho Rose Cun sto Air Barlow (captain of the Cobden team). A vete of thanks was passed to Air J Paterson for his work as Chairman of the Alanagement. Committee during recent seasons. •
