(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. September 28. The question of a settlement outside Asia of the Assyrians who may de sire to leave Iraq. cam e before the League of Nations Council. Several suggestions for their settlement have fiom + ime to time been made, and for various reasons, rejected. Tn response to a request for further proposals. the possibilities of areas in British Guiana am] French West Africa were before the meering - of the League Council, togethe • with communications on the subject from the British and French Governments, and reports from the JEenev i State Council. It was decide,] w attempt a settlement and the League will investigate the suitability of areas and other questions connected with the proposed transference of these people. The British Government suggests that hi regard to the territory of some 1.3 Ono square miles in British Guiana which might be reserved for the purpose. the Leaguers independent investigation into the climatic and other conditions should extend over at least three months. The agricultural potentialities of the territory, it was stated, have not yer been properly tested - , but it is thought limbed areas would lend themselves to cultivation, and meet ithe requirements of the Assryian sotdfors and their stock.
The Council of the League having examined the 'application of Ecuador as a candidate for admission. the League decided to consider 'that Republic from to-day as a regular member.
