SOPWITH’S COMPLAINTS. AT BUSINESS SIDE OF RACES. BRISTOL (Rhode Island), Sept. 27. M I am not heartbroken because 1 did not win, but disgusted at the spirit in which international racing is conducted here,” Mr Sopwith declared to-day. ‘‘l do not feel vindictive at mv treatment at the hands of
the New York Yacht Club, but do feel completely disillusioned.” He declared that he came to the United States for the good of the sport, but found the races were 4 ( run as a big business, something I was not prepared to contend with.” Mr Sopwith said he was fully aware of the mistakes he had made during the contests, and of the last race. He said; ‘ ‘My tactics were all wrong. All errors made aboard the Endeavour from beginning to end were mine. The people of Gosport built the best boat in the world.” Air Sopwith praised all the members of the crew. Although he had stated emphatically after the final race, he would not challenge again, he was still in a fighting mood, and now prefers to leave the question open. He declared that he woud not sell the Endeavour, but would race her in England.
