FISH RESEARCH

Licensees to Assist (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 27. The statutory retention of a portion of the slightly-increased fishing license fee, to be allotted to fresh-water fish research, was warmly approved to-day by the Acclimatisation Societies’ Conference. All of these societies in the position to do so have been (contributing towards the funds for the Research Committee, which is centred at Christchurch, for the past year, hut the feeling was generally expressed by the delegates that the new move was one in the right direction, and the delegates undertook to explain the position to the members of their societies The Government was requested to increase Uhe .number of sanctuaries within their districts, and also to set aside such further areas of Crown land as may be suitable for the purpose.
