SHOT BY U.S.A. POLICE. ONE OF DILLINGER’S GANG. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received August 24 at 10 p.m.) MONTREAL, August 23. A message from St- Paul states that Homer Van Aleter, who was the bandit Dillinger’s assistant, was shot and killed by police there to-night outside a house which they had surrounded. He was the sixth member of the Dillinger gang to be slain. Although only 28 years of age, lie was known as the “killer” of the gang. He had a long criminal record. Nearly one thousand dollars was found on his person.
