(Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs J. Chapman and family are spending a few days at Dobson. Mrs J. O. Byrne and Miss M. Byrne (.Ikamatua), are visiting Christchurch and Timaru. Master K Williams and Miss Joan Williams of Greymoulth, are spending a holiday her© as the guests of Miss Jean Cameron. Master Eric Coulson, of St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch, aud Master M. Nohra, Marist Brothers, Greymouth, have arrived home for the term holidays. Miss G. Bellamy, of Greymouth, who has been visiting the township, has returned home. Constable RobeiHson is on annual* holiday, and during his absence Constable Larsen, is in charge of the local station. I Miss II Nitsehke, of Christchurch, is spending a few days here. Miss E. Bragg, of Blackball, was a visitor to the township for the weekend. ' At the Trinity College of Music Examination held in Reefton on Monday, conducted by Dr J Lyon, one of the ( allege’s foremost examiners, the following Waiuta pupils of Miss Enid Byrne, Ikamatua, were successful in passing fheir respective grades: Ad van ceil senior—Margaret Nohra 73p1«. Senior—Nora Rose 73. Intermediate— Irene 'Thorn 69 Congratulations are extended to Miss Byrne ami her pupils on the results. Master A. McEwin (Grey Technical College), is spending his ‘term holidays with his parents. Alp S. Morrison, who is an inmate of the lieefton Hospital, is making ;i good A large number of Waiuta League supporters visited Reef ton on* Sunday to witness the (’anterbury-lnangahua representative matDli. 'The local play(ts in 'the team, Alessrs E* Kerridg- . and Doug. White, both played sterling games in the winning pack. Kerridge was feeling the effects of a hard game on Saturday. The omission of Paddy Scott from the South Island team has caused a good deal of local comment among League supporters. Scott is small*, but hardly 'that small, that he could bo overlooked bv the selector, Mr (.■on Hall. Sbott is without doubt one of the outstanding players in either cpde on the West Coast. Inangahua have defeated West (’oast 'twice this season, yet they could only get two players in the South (Island team. Some of thp selected players have evident ly been chosen on reputation. A large crowd was present at the annual ball of'(he Waiuta League Club which was held in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday (Evening. Visitors were present from Grey mon lb and the surrounding districts and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Delightful music was supplied by the Happiness Boys’ Band. The hall was tastefully decorated with coloured streamers and lights.' The ladies present were charmingly gowned and a dainty and sum tuous supper was served by an ener getic committee. Air R Bartlett had chargp of the floor.

A committee has been formed to run entertainments to augment the fund? of the Catholic Church. Card evenings are held in the samplp rooms on Tues day evenings, and good attendances are recorded. This week, in addition, a forty-five evening is being held, and these in future will be conducted weekly on Thursdays A children’s fancy dress ball is to be held in the Miners’ Hall on Friday, Augus>|- 31, for which valuable prizes have been donated. A queen carnival is also being conducted and Miss K. Cameron has been nominated as the Waiuta-Tkamatua vandi date. The adjourned annual meeting of the Waiuta Miners’ Medical Association, will be held in the hall on Sunday, morning at 10.30. when all members are requested to attend.
