FROM ARIZONA FARMS A Critical Agitation (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 23. A message from Phoenix, Arizona, states; “Arizona’s Governor, Air B. Aloeur, has placed his faith in tha common sense of the citizens of the Stale to avert, physical violence in an attempt being made to oust, the Japanese agriculturalists from Arizona, and has informed the State Department at Washington that he believed the problem could be solved without involving the United States and Japan in controversy. The Governor has received urgent requests from Washington to use his authority to avoid a racial clash. He has also had a dispatch from Tokio stating: “Arizona has supplanted. ATanchuria as Japan’s principal trouble zone.” Governor Aloeur therefore telegraphed to the Acting-Secre-tarv of State, Mr William Phillips, as follows: “] am in close touch with tin* anti-.Tapanese situation in the Salt River A’alley. I feel sure that th? common sense of Arizona’s citizens will prevent any violence. You may bp sure the laws of Arizona will be on forced without fear or favour.” Air Fred Ruse is the leader of the anti-alien group of farmers.
