MR AND MRS Wm. WHITE. On the eve of their departure »'<>» Christchurch, Mr and Mrs Win. White, of Dobson, were entertained at a social (‘veiling by the Dobson Soccei ( lub, in the Dobson Hall, on Wednesday night. 'The hall was tastefully decorated with the Club’s colouns, umber and black, anil over sixty persons attended. Mr Mooney, President of the Club, opened the gathering, and referred to Mr White’s .capabilities as a player and as an official’. The' loss of Mr and Mns White would be greatly felt by the Club, Mrs White being one of their chief financiers.
Mr Glendenning. Secretary, said that when .Mr White had joined Hr? Clu'b, they had found just the man they wanted. a prolific goal scorer, a polished player, and a utility man. Since incapacity, he had been on the Committee, and had served them well. Mrs White was a staunch suppa.’ter, and a valued member of the Ladies’ Committee. The Club wished their last night in Dobson to be a merry one, and that they Would meet with (‘very .success and happiness in their new home.
Mr Richardson, Captain, endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers and wished the guests health and prospe.’Btv in the future. Mr Monney then presented Mr White ’with a case of cutlery, and an art union ticket, as a token of the resped in which he was held by the < 'lub. Mrs Ewan, on behalf of the Ladies’ Committee and Bring and Buy Club, presented Mrs White with a decorated double’ decken cakestand. Mr White suitably replied. Mr W. Carse said that he was pleased to speak on behalf of the residents of Dobson, who wore all sorry that two such good citizens were, leaving. Mrs White was an energetic Iworken and her time was willingly given to place* any cause or function on the road to success. On behalf of the residents, hp wished Mr and Mrs White every success and li a ftpin ess in the future. The evening was spent in dancing, while vocal items were given by Mpsdames White and Erskine. Messrs Murphy and Richardson. Mr W. Carse made an efficient M.C. The singing of “Au Id La n g Svn e ” b rough t th ? gathering to a close. Mr ami Mrs White left by vester- . day’s express, and were farewelled by a large number of friends, at the . Brunner station.
