WESTPORT NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.) Big Wrestling Bout Cut Short; WESTPORT, August 22. Wrestling at never fails to attract a big house and the attendance at last evening’s bout, when* Dean Dutton and Dr. Fred Meyer, engaged in six rounds of spectacular wrestling, was no exception to the rule. Tho boUf ended disappointingly in the sixth session of a scheduled 8-round b ut, when Meyer was disqualified for introducing tactics foreign to the rules. The opening round was marked by sizzling wrestling and some very lively exchanges. Meyer brought Detton 'to the mat with a head lock and then applied an arm stretch, but Detton wriggled free. The men then entered on a campaign of spectaculai work, and hurling themselves from all angles brought the housy to a high pitch of excitement. Dutton opened the second round by snapping on a short-rm scissors, which he quickly changed to a well executed crucifix hold, and with a policy of patience held his opponent for some time. The men wrestled strenuously and introduced many frills which were thoroughly enjoyed by the large gathering. The first fall came in the third round Meyer trapped Detton in a punishing led hold to which th e latter submitted. Detton had not completely recovered when the gong went for the fourth session, and held himself in check and
successfully evaded an early attempt by Meyey to again concentrate on his injured limb. The men wrestled at a fas( pace, ami Detton, making good use of 'the ropes, connected with a series of flying tackles and Meyer be-
came an easy victim for. a body press With honours even the wrestlers went at it hammer and tongs in the sixth round. It was a case of all in and the tactics resorted to b\- Meyer earned the disapproval <>f the crowd. The efforts of the referee to restrain Meyer were fruitless and the Doctor was disqualified. The spectators were not pre pared for an early ending of the bout, (‘specially at a time "Lon it had readied an atmosphere of tense excitement, ami anticipation. Mr 1..
