Leave for Teacher REFUSED BY EDUCATION BOARD, WELLINGTON, August 17. A deputation waited on the Minister of Education. Hon. R. Masters, to protect against the action of the Wellington Education Board in refusing to grant six months leave of absence without pay to Mr Riske. M.A. a teachert employed bv the Board for the purpose of visiting Russia. “I should like To say that this question does not come under my jurisdiction.” said the Minister, in rep’y. “ I have no jurisdiction whatever over the matter of whether or not Mr Riskr goes to Russia. So far as resigning is concerned, Mr Riske may do so, if be wishes. He is just as entitled to t.'he position on his return as anyone else. He may apply for any position in New Zealand, and provided that he has the right grading, he must be considered. I cannot alter the Board decision. As a matter of fact I have never ‘interfered with the administrative affairs of Education Boards [ and I do not intend to make a precedent in this case.”
