EDUCATION BOARD

NEW CHAIRMAN. (Per press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 15. Mr C. S. Thompson was elected c.hairnuin iof the Canterbury Educa-fii-ou Board at the annual meeting o>f members this morning. Th c retiring ch.ai rimuq Mr W. P. Sp’em-er, presided until the election of the new sided 'tmtil the eeetion of the new chairman, who conducted the election of the committee for the year. Mr Spencer welcomed the new member, Mr W T. Langley, successor to Mr S. R. Evison, and congratulated members who had been re-elected. Invacating the cha’ir, he thanked members, the staff and the newspapers for their assistance.

Mt Spencer nominated Air Thompson for the chairmanship, and Mr W. A. Banks seconded Ithe motion. There were mo other nominations and Mr Thompson was elected unopposed. Committees were elected as follows: Appointments —Messrs R. Wild (chairman), S. Ba'ird, W. A. Banks. G Benstead, S. Smith and W. T. Langley. Buildings—Messrs 11. J. Bignell chairman), G. W. Armitage, J. JHurley, J. W. Preen, W. P. Spencer, and C. S. Thompson. Agricultural, Manual and Technical—Messrs Benstead (chairman), Baird. Armitage, Banks. Hurley, Smith Preen, Spencer, and Langley Finance —Messrs Hurley (chairman), Baird, Benstead, Langley, Bignell, Preen and Spencer. Training College, Normal School Messrs Banks (chairman), Baird, Benstead, Smith, Langley, Preen aad Wild.
