WHIPPET WORLD

(By “Slipper.”) The meeting held at Cobden last Sunday received good support from the public, and an enjoyable afternoon of good racing witnessed. 'l'he track was fast, but owing to the dogs being on a strange ground no records were broken, although the times were consitsently good. A good sort in Mountain Buck won the Novice from Black Dust. The winner’s training stood him in good stead at the finish of a fast-run race, 'rhe second dog, with a bit more education, should turn the tables on his

Gold Ring is having an fcnlucky career to dale ami usually something happens to her on the eve of a meeting. Iler turn will come. Eight Stone Eight accounted for the middleweight, with Red Terror in second place. Afore races will be won by this dog, who, although small, is full of grit ynd always does her best at the right end. Jonah, Britomartis and Spicey found the pace too hot. Flowing Gold, an outsize in whippets, put up a great performance to win the hurdles after being left. Britomartis led from Orion by half a length with the rest of the field close up at the last jump but the big dog had too many guns in tlie “run-in” and won well from Britomartis.

The big race of the day found Britomartis at the top of her form, and after getting beaten by Flowing (IoM in her heat, improved to take tho-'ffnal nicely from Lenin, who won his qualifying heat from Spring Boy. Lenin does not relish the soft going and with the advent of good weather and firm tracks, more will be seen of him.

In the absence of Flowing Gold in the Farewell Hurdles, Britomartis had no trouble in winning from Drion, with Spring Boy, Lenin and Jonah unplaced. The latter jumped the first hurdle like a champion, but thereafter elected to run the rest of the, race on the flat outside fhe tapes.

In a special race between Snow Belle (3), Windsor Lass (3) and Spion Kop (scr), the. dogs finished in that order. The scratch dog 'picked up practically none of the handicap.
