UNEMPLOYMENT TAX

What Reduction ? PUBLIC SERVICE CUT RESTORATION. (Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, August 15. Further details of the Government’s new policy which is to be incorporated in the Budget, were placed before another Coalition Caucus to-night. These details confirm the earlier forecast. As well as a restoration of 5 per cent, of the cut, this to cover the lower-paid public servants, some reduction in the wages tax will also be adopted. It is reported that the cut in the unemployment taxation will be either twopence in the pound, or sixpence, and not threepence, as has been stated.

In addition, it is proposed to increase the general revenue by bringing a further group of items under the sales tax.
