(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, August 15. Th e County Council last evening completed the negotiations by signing transfer for land to extend the local aerodrome and fix its control The work needed will be shortly started. Landing ground sites at Mussel Beach. Okuru, Nolan’s, Upper Okuru and Haast are to be surveyed shortly by Public Works Department officials, who will be transported to and fro by aeroplane. It, is proposed to form a men’s hockey club here, and a meeting of those interested is being held at Keller’s rooms at 7 p’.m. to-morrow. Saturday’s basketball games at Al! Saint’s courts are: 2.30 p.m. —Old Girls A v. School B (Miss Pedder); OM Girls B v. Ross (Miss .Dale); 3 p.m.— KokaJtahi v. School C (Miss Pedder); School B v St. Mary’s A (Mrs Stevenson); 3.30 p.m. —Old Girls A v. St. Mary’s B (Miss Dale); School A v. Kanieri (Mrs Stevenson) The County Council last evening refused th e 'Highways Board request to contribute a fifth of the cost of new bridges on main highways, except in >the case of one on Kanieri road to the plan to tar-seal the road to Kanieri. It was stated that the Council was this year facing a deficit. The Countjy Engineer hias designed the first concrete bridge for a. secondary h'ighway in the County, to cross Dimmick Creek at Koiterangi the width being 12 feet. There was a good attendance last evening at the District High Schoo 1 annual concert ait the theatre. Playettes, recitations, songs, 'orchestral and other items made up an attractive programme. Mr O’Brien also; wrote with regard to placing men On the main road beyond AVeheka, stating Mr Coates was sympathetic and the matter was to be discussed with the Minister of Public Works. —Received and action approved. It was resolved to ask motorists to takecar e on Lower Kokatahi road not Ito endanger live stock by fast driving owing to the proximity of the drains. It was decided not to accede to A. S. Havill’s request to reform the old ford road at Koiterangi. The restoring of Redmond’s road, Russ was referred to the Engineer to act. It was decided to ask the Government to deal with erosion at Tetaho caused by Wataroa River. It was decided to reply to Wataroa Farmers’ Union that Waitangi south bank road a’Al Graham road would be completed when funds were available. It. was decided that Councillors visit South Westland and exam'ine work,* proposed, also to look into D. F. Dennehy’s objection to a proposed cut to cope with erosion ou the south bank of Wataroa- River. A request by W. IL Gates for £l3 to be spent on Callery*Waiho track was refused. Williams Bros oiler was received to repair and improve Walsh Road (at a cost, of £3O. It was reported tlda't the Council had accepted the proposals of the Highways Council for tar-seal'ing Kaihinu railway crossing t° Hokitika boundary, three miles, estimated cost £22OQ; Hokitika, boundary to Hokitika river bridge at Kanieri, one mile 66 chains, estimated cost £1340. The Council’s contribution is estimated at £1179, and the work to be completed at the end of next March. Cr Murdoch’s arrangement of finance was commended. The Council decided ■it could not contribute £1407 'towards bridge renewals on the Counity h'ighway ot' which the total cost would be £7035 It was agreed to contribute £llO towards constructing Shenaudoa Creek bridge.
