RUGBY FOOTBALL
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The weekly’ meeting of the Management Committee of the West- Coast Rugby Union was held last evening. Present: Messrs T. Mclntosh (acting chairman), ,W. Williams, F. Eggleton, F AV. Baillie. T. P- Ryan and the Secretary, J. E. Joyce. One application for reinstatement to the code was ordered to be forwarded to the New Zealand Union with a fa- - ourable recommendation. W. McNabb (Blaketown Club) and J Weir (United) were reclassified from senior to junior. The club captain of the Star Club forwarded a letter from C. Spark, of the Star juniors, stating that the team! still wished to take part in the competition. The Chairman said that the Stai Club had written in withdrawing the junior team.
Mr Eggleton said Star juniors could field a team at Rugby- Park, but apt at Cobden, where they had been consistently drawn to play. It was decided that Star juniors be allowed to continue in the competition, and that the Star Club be written to advising them of this, Mr Williams said that a lot of the other teams had not played away from Rugby Park as much as Stars. Mr Ryan said that as AVes>t Coast had lost the Shield it might be a good idea to send West Coast to Wellington to play that province’s representative side prior to the match with Canterbury on September 22. The Chairman said that West Coast owed Wellington a match. Th e Secretary suggested that West Coast challenge for the Seddon Shield again this season. The Chairman said they had lost the Shield fair and square, and he did not think they should challenge this year. They would have the right of first challenge next year, if Marlborough held the Shield
The Chairman, Mr Ryan and the Secretary were appointed a. committee to endeavour to arrange a. match with the Wellington representatives on the Wednesday prior to the Canterbury match.
Mr Ryan said it. would be a well deserved trip for the representatives. The team could go over on the Tuesday, play Wellington on Wednesday,. &nd )<turn to Christchurch for the match with Canterbury on Saturday. On the motion of the Chairman, it was decided to write congratulating the Marlborough. Union on its representatives winning the Seddon Shield, and expressing the wish that the players had enjoyed their visit. The selectors were ‘instructed to select the senior representatives to meet Nelson, and the junior representatives to meet Hokitika on August 25, on Saturday night.
It was decided to write to Nelson Union offering 50 per cent of the nett gate for the match on August 25. It was decided to challenge Westlaud Sub-Union for the Dittman Shield. September 1 was the date suggested. The suggestion to hold a sports field day at the e nd of the season was left in the hands of Messrs Ryan, Baillie and Joyce to endeavour to arrange. The programme will include running, seven-a-side football, etc. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY Senior Champ’ionship final and McBrearty Memorial Shield: United v.
Blaketown, at Rugby Park, No. 1, at 3 p.m. (F. J, Tempero). Mcßrearty Memorial Shield: Cobden v. Star, Rugby Park No. 2 at 3 p.m. (D. McKay). Junior: Star v. United, Park at 1.30 (Mr McLaughlin); Celtic v. Cobden B at Cobden at 1.30 (Mr Spencer); Cobden A v. Blaketown, Park at 1.30 (Mr Eggleton). Third Grade: Kmnara. v. United, at Tech, ground 1.30 (Mr Jarvis).
