PUBLIC BEQUESTS

BY LATE WM. ELLIOTT. AUCKLAND, August 14. Under the will of the late William Elliot, of Auckland, who died at Townsville. Queensland .a number of charitable organisations in and about Auckland city will benefit from a trust that he created. The estate is a very large one. half of which has not been determined. From the estate the sum of £7250 is to be set aside and the income from this is to be divided into 29 equal parts, and paid over proportionately to the organisations named. Four parts are to go to each of the following: St Mary’s Homes, Otahuhu; Presbyterian Church Home. Onehunga; New Zealand Institute for the Blind; the City Mission; the Door of Hope Mission; Manurewa Children’s Home, and Sister Esther. The remaining one part is allotted to the Newmarket Kindergarten. From his col lection of paintings the late Mr Elliot bequeathed three works to the City Council, including “A Pastoral Scene” by Richard Ansdall, R.A., that was exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1866.
