NON-PAYMENT OF RATES. COUNTY COUNCILS WIPE THEM OFF. (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received August 13 at 7 p.m.) LONDON, August 13. The London “Daily Telegraph’s” sq»ecial correspondent, at 'Cork says: “The local government in the Free State reached a crisis when rates throughout the country remain unpaid to such an extent that it 'will bo necessary for some County Councils to cease paying poor relief, as bank 'overdrafts have been eaten up, and no more money is available, and farmers cap not meet demands. Rates struck for 1933-34 totalled £3,149,000
but only about two millions of this has been collected. The rest of tho rates have been written off by the Council’s as had debts, being thhitysix per cent. o£ the iwhole. Condi tions since March have been going from had to worse, farms going to rack and ruin, and there being no money for repairs.’’
