CRICKET

SCOTLAND v. AUSTRALIA. (Aus. and N.Z. Fable Assn.) EDINBURGH. July 30. The wicket was easy to-day. McCabe was out to a brilliant left hand catch. He batted for 95 minutes and hit nine fours. Barnett continued in workmanlike st vie. Kippax was in excellent form, driving and square cutting powerfully. The pair added 100 in 95 minutes. Barnett, attempting to force the pace, was easily caught. He batted for 190 minutes and hit a six and live fours. Kippax’s innings lasted 145 minutes, lie hit six fours. The Australians declared when Barnett was out. The innings lasted for 290 minutes. Ebeling with a brilliant low left hand catch at second slip, shattered Scotland’s hopes by dismissing Dempster when he seemed set for a sparkling innings. He cover-drove glances off Ebeling for two fours, which were perfect shots. Tie was playing confident cricket, despite a strained leg, necessitating a runner.

Ebeling bowled Hart and Innes with successive balls, thereafter the batsmen were clearly nervous, but Scotland, thanks principally to Smith, who batted soundly, and the Australians’ laxity, comfortably avoided defeat.
