RUGBY FOOTBALL
WEST COAST UNION. The Management Committee of the West ('oast Rugby Union met last evening, thorp being present Messrs .1 Guy (Chairman), 'T. Mclntosh. F. Eggleton, W. Williams. .L Kyle, F. W. Baillie, T. P. Ryan and .L E. Joyce (Secretary). In the absence of the President (Mr A. A. Adams), from whom an anologv was received, Air (•uy was voted to the chair. Accounts totalling £l9 2s 6d wore for payment. R. Quinn was granted a transfer from tht* K'umara to Cobden Club, and reclassified from .senior to junior. An invitation from the Railway Ba'll Committee for the Bush team to attend the ball on Tuesday night was accepted with thanks. Arising out of a letter from the Nelson Union it was decided to nominate a team for the primary .schools’ tournament, to be he held in Nelson, and that a deputation await upon the schools in connection with the matter. A football was granted to the mara Convent School
It was decided that the representative team to play the Bush Unions be chosen t'O-night (Wednesday). Air Breeze (Hokitika) was appointed referee for Wednesday’s match against Bush, and Air F. Eggleton manager of the West ('oast team. The match will commence at 2.45, and th e admission charge will be Is 6d all round, with seating free. The Greymouth players in the Coast teaiy are to assemble for training at the Cobden gymnasium at 7.30 to-morrow night.
FIXTURES. Senior: United v Cobden, at Rugby Park No. 1 at 3 p.m. (Air Temp'ero): Star v. Blaketown, Rugby Park No. 2 at 3 p.m. (Air McLaughlin). Junior: Cobden A v Cobden B, at Rugby Park, No. 2 at 1.30 (Mr AlcKay); Star v. Celtic, Tech, ground at 2 p.m. (Mr Eggleton); United v. Blaketown, at Tech, ground at 3 p.m. (Air Jarvis). Thir grade: Kuniara v. United, at Kumara, at 1.3(1' (Air Goodall). Fourth grade: Star v. Blaketown, at Tech. Ground at 1 p.m (Mr Glover).
SPECTATOR STRIKES REFEREE. AFTER BEING ORDERED OFF. AVEJLLTNGTON, July 24. In a Rugby match her e on Saturday, a spectator, it is stated, became so annoyed that he struck a referee. The incident, which occurred during the half-time interval, arose from remarks made from the sideline during the progress of the first spell. It is understood that, after a warning was issued, a request was made by the referee that the spectator in question should be removed from the ground. At this, the referee was struck, and a further warning from the referee resulted in another blow. The matter, it is stated, has been reported to official quarters with a veiw to further action being taken. This is the second time this season that a Rugby referee has been struck, though in the previous one, it is understood, a player was responsible.
