Both men were employed by Rabbidge and Co., Wellington, gas works engineers, and were making repairs to the local works. They had opened a big valve from the gas holder, and while Bray was leaning over the valve. with Liver close by, they were overcome. They were alone in the room at the time. Later they were discovered by an employee named Eichler. Bray was already dead. Eichler pulled Liver outside, and applied a resuscitation method with success. Doctor Call sent Liver to the hospital.
