ASTREA AT DARWIN
MISSION FATHERS Befriend Aviator (Aus. & N.Z ('able Assn.) DARWIN, June 18. The Mission lugger, St. Francis arrived at 9.30 last night from Bathurst Island. Brother Smith from Bathurst Island Mission says that the aeroplane made a good landing and all are well. The St. Francis left Bathurst Island at 5.30 on Saturday afternoon and fought strong head winds and head seas all the time for the trip, which is six hours. The lugger will leave as soon as the cargo is aboard, but it is unknown when the Astrea will leave the island. ASTREA FLIES TO DARWIN. (Received Juno 19 at 10.15. p.m) DARWIN, June 19. The aeroplane Astrea refulled this forenoon at Bathurst Island. She. took off at four p.m., and arrived in Darwin at 5.5 p.m. local time. MISSION FATHER AS PASSENGER. (Received June .19 at 10.50 I’.m.) DARWIN. June 19. The plane Astrea made a splendid landing here, and she received a very vorclial welcome from a large crowd. Fathir Gsell of the Bathurst Island, Catholic Native Mission Station, was aboard. He immensely enjoyed Jiis first flight. Bajor Brackley, who was the most courteous to everybody, paid a tribute to Father Gsell’s goodness, saying that Im bad been a very good friend, and and that he (Major Brackley) was glad to have had him on the trip. Major Brackley also acknowledged his first meal of* Kangaroo meat at Bathurst Island, which he said, had been most enjoyable. The Astrea will be thrown open for inspection, and she is refuelling to night. The Hight for Sydney will be resumed at daybreak.
