LONDON. May 15. Sir Archibald Weigall, addressing the Royal Empire Society, urged that m view of Britain's overwhelming interest in the Suez Canal, the British representation on the Canal Board should not be confined to retired private secretaries. The Suez Canal dues were nearly twentyfive per cent, greater than the Panama Canal charges, although the Panama Canal cost more to make, and its running costs were double those of the Suez Canal. The American trade to the Far East, and the Japanese trad e in Asia thus secured an advantage by the Panama Canal. Britain should assert her interests against the Canal Company’s high handed methods and excessive charges.
